Description: The Baragwi Farmers Co-operative Society Limited was officially registered on Oct 26, 1953, with the aim of promoting the social and economic interests of its members; arranging for coffee processing, grading, packing, transporting and marketing for its members at the best prices; and “any other activity deemed necessary” for the healthy prosperity of its members.

Today, the society has approximately 17,000 registered members who are drawn from 12 wet mills (i.e., factories): Muchagara, Kagongo, Rwambiti, Karumandi, Kyanja, Kianyaga, Gachami, Kianjiru, Kariru, Githiuriri, Thimu and Guama.
The Guama factory, which opened in 1974, is named after the local village and serves 3,500 smallholder producers who, on average, each have around 85 trees. Coffees at the factory are fermented in fresh water from the Kaboyo River and dried in the sun on raised beds.

Coffees from this area are known for having the smooth body and dynamic acidity that coffees from Kenya are prized for.
