Description: Hunapu is the indigenous name that ancient Mayans gave to the stratovolcano in Antigua, Volcán de Agua. Our export partner, Zelcafe, works with roughly 300 farmers in this region and embraces this ancient name to represent the coffee they produce. Once ripe cherries have been harvested, it’s delivered to the Bella Vista Mill. At the mill, coffee is first separated by day of picking, variety, and elevation. Once lots are defined, coffee goes through densimetric sorting to remove low density cherries. The ripe, dense cherries are then taken to Bella Vistas newest addition, which is their greenhouses. Drying on raised beds in greenhouses allows for the coffee to dry in a controlled environment, raising the quality and replicability. Once coffee has finished drying it will rest in the warehouse, and is then taken to the dry mill for processing. The coffee is hulled to remove the parchment, sorted by screen size and density, and then goes through an optical sorter to discolored and damaged beans.

We’ve supported the Hunapu lot for a number years, and it’s clear why when you taste this one. We get notes of Black Cherry and Red Apple, the acidity of Grapefruit, and a finish of Nougat.

Great cup of coffee. I took it just past the end of first crack. Very low in bitterness and smoth as silk.

One of my favorite Guats!

Easy to roast in Behmor AB. Most washed are easy from Bodhi. The Hunapu is one of my favorite Guats for impressing guest who want to experience a light to med roast & likes it straight drip or pour over with no additives. Great taste and notes all around. Great finish. I have roasted it all all different levels and it works perfect for most anything. But prefer it for drip or pour over because of its quality all around.

10 years after!

It was the summer of 2011 and I had roasted my first batch bought from Bodhi Leaf; fresh and an explosion of flavors is what I remember and am expecting same this time around from the Hunapu Small Farmer’s Coop.
