Cupping Notes: Brown Sugar, Almond, Dark Chocolate, Plum
Description: Fazenda Monte Verde is situated in the mountainous region of Sul de Minas, just south of Minas Gerais. The farm has a reputation for producing high quality coffee in Brazil, taking awards at the Cup of Excellence (COE) in 2012, 2016, and 2018. Monte Verde covers 180 hectares of coffee trees, a substantial operation run by José Roberto Canato. The farm produces 50% natural, like this one, and the other 50% as pulped naturals. The coffees are pre-dried under the sun, in the 8,000 square meters of drying patios, and then drying is finished in mechanical dryers. This one is an NY 2 which stands for “New York 2”, referring to the maximum number of defects allowed, it’s the highest grade recognized by the New York Stock Exchange. The lot is also sorted by screen size and is among the largest Brazilian size grades at 17/18.
The COE cuppers have recognized the quality of Fazenda Monte Verde, but you don’t have to take their word… you can take ours. We get lots of sweetness with notes of Brown Sugar and a bit of Marshmallow, with flavors of Almond, a linger of Dark Chocolate, and a slight fruitiness of Plum.
