Description:Twende Cooperative holds Fair Trade and Organic certifications, and has been producing complex, high-scoring coffee in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, since 2011. The coop is in the Kivu region, bordering Rwanda and Burundi, with their 2,093 farming partners growing coffee in North and South Kivu. The coffees delivered to Twende are all bourbon variety, grown at 1,400-1,800 meters above sea level.

This impressive cooperative is all overseen by a group of 570 women cooperative leaders who are working to create prosperity for members of Twende and non-member locals. Specialty Coffee production is an economic stimulant in the region, Twende not only supports their 2,093 farmers, they also employ 150 women and young people during harvest season to help with processing. Achieving this level of quality takes hard work, and Twende is paid well above the price set by Fair Trade Organic. For such a little-known country in specialty coffee, we’re excited that we get to be a part of this movement to invest in the region through incredible coffee.

Social and economic efforts aside, this coffee is delicious, our export partner cupped it at 87 points, with notes of white chocolate, vanilla, with fruity and floral characteristics. We definitely see their notes, and upon arrival we cupped it with some similar notes of black tea, vanilla, almond, and gooseberry.

So good, the whole family tried this one.

Me - I can sense the orange and vanilla right away but in a subtle lovely way. This coffee is so very smooth but a lot going on. Full of complexities, layers of flavor. I taste brown sugar and chocolate. Like a 5 course meal, you get one after another.

My husband - Ridiculously smooth and light, it’s perfect. Soft, not overpowering, just smooth. Not nutty no chocolate no fruit but maybe tart

My 17 year old - Light, tart like black currants, quiet linger- not an aftertaste, really good maybe the best we’ve bought.

My 15 year old, “Tastes like a crappy cup of coffee.” Sounds harsh but I think she was quoting the girl from the movie Elf and she doesn’t drink coffee.

I really like these coffees. I let it go until first crack is finished and then cool. My faves are ethiopians and burbons and this is so good in my opinion which is usually the opposite of most tastes. I've had several pounds already and look forward to more

We get our beans from the farms and roast coffee daily. We truly are farm to cup.
