Description: Finca Montevideo has been producing coffee in Cantón Alvarez for decades, but it was only three years ago that Alberto Guirola took ownership, with an interest in entering the world of specialty coffee. He started by partnering with El Borbollon, an export group with over 100 years of experience growing and exporting coffee in El Salvador — not a bad place to start. Together they have turned Finca Montevideo into a 140 hectare oasis for coffee. While this lot is made up of Bourbon, Typica, and Pacas varieties, Alberto has recently planted small plots of Pacamara and Geisha varieties as well. We hope to visit the farm in upcoming harvests, but for now we have to rely on pictures of the breathtaking views, overseeing the pacific shoreline and a chain of volcanoes 🌋😍. El Balsamo-Quetzaltepec is one of the six coffee growing regions in El Salvador, it’s cool climate and volcanic soil produce 25% of El Salvadorian coffee.Once pickers harvest only the ripest cherries, this lot was sun dried on raised beds for 18 days.
The efforts of Alberto and El Borbollon are easy to notice on the cupping table. This washed lot strikes a delicious balance between sweet and vibrant. We get lots of citrus, like Lemon-Lime, sweetness of maple syrup, and a linger of black tea and honey.
