Description: Ethiopian coffee is famous for good reason… It’s just the best. Ardi has always been a popular Naturally processed coffee for us. Year after year, it cups beautifully, and we love it. It comes as no surprise to us that this year we got a sample of Ardi Washed, and it was the best coffee on the table. Ardi comes from one of our favorite coffee producing regions in the world, which sounds like a big claim, and maybe it is, but we mean it. Coffees from Guji are simply world class. This is a high elevation region where the Rift Valley meets the Bale Mountains where most farms are not much larger than 1 acre. Farmers usually grow a handful of other crops to provide income when coffee trees aren’t in harvest, but when they are, we’re both in luck. This lot is washed clean with mountain water as it arrives to the washing station and is fermented for 72 hours after being pulped. After it’s decently long fermentation, the coffee is washed clean again, and then sun dried on raised beds for up to 2 weeks. The simple growing and processing are just one thing that makes us love this coffee so much. This isn’t some crazy experimental coffee (though we love those too), it’s a simple washed coffee, done perfectly.
Upon arrival we got crisp, vibrant notes of Juicy Orange acidity, Fresh Peach and Melon, with Orange Blossom florals and a sweet lingering of Honey — this one is a shining example of why Ethiopian coffee is famous.
