Description: Kaguyu Coffee Factory is on the western side of Kirinyaga County in the southern part of famous Mt. Kenya. Small-scale farmers are organized and bring their red cherries to the factory for processing. This factory is part the Inoi farmers’ cooperative Society. Kirinyaga County is about 192 Km North East of Nairobi, bordering the famous and well known Nyeri and Embu Counties.
Kaguyu coffee Factory is located in Inoi, Kaguyu, in Kirinyaga County. With ideal conditions for coffee growing, farmers benefit from the mineral-rich red volcanic loam soils and high altitudes that are typical of the area. After harvesting, coffee cherry is delivered to the factory, where it undergoes a fully washed or wet processing method. Water is pumped to reservoir tanks for pulping and recirculation. After pulping, the coffee is fermented overnight, before it cleaned, soaked and spread out on raised beds for drying.
This is our first year tasting coffee from Kaguyu, but we really loved the coffee from this factory when cupping preship samples. In the cup we get notes of Grapefruit, Lime, Kiwi, and Butterscotch.
