One of the more common varietals on the Mierisch farms is this Red Catuai. This cross between a Mundo Novo and Caturra, this dwarf plant from Brazil takes advantage of its size and short internode density to produce a higher yield, in comparison to a Bourbon. Although it is susceptible to leaf rust, its shape allows for easier application of pest and disease treatments.
La Huela is owned by the Mierisch Family and managed by Santos Demitris Flores. This farm was given its name from an unusual growth of lemon trees that were originally found there. It is a huge farm at 171 hectares and heavy forest provide plenty of shade for the coffee. This farm was awarded 2nd place in the 2008 Cup Of Excellence.
