Description: The farmers in Nyakishenyi village specifically are some of the most resilient people on this planet. The natural processed coffees on this lot are largely from female coffee farmers who have endured hard cultural and physical challenges. The workers have to dig in the garden all day for their food, take care of their children and tend to the few coffee trees.
The workers at this farm get paid a good premium of 50cents/kg of cherry unlike the multinational middlemen who pay 10cents/kg of cherry. More farmers are buying solar panels for their houses and these solar panels have 3 lights, and a phone charger. For us this means the children are doing their homework in good light and not inhaling smoke from candles, kerosene lamps and fire wood. We have many mothers buying bed nets for their children to prevent the spread of malaria as this is a recurring problem in our village. This goes a long way to improve quality of life and also empower the future generation with successful education.
