Description: Rumudamo is a small woreda in the Arbegona area which is one of the 30 districts in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR) of Ethiopia. Part of the Sidama Zone, Arbegona is bordered on the south by Bona Zuria, on the southwest by Bursa, on the northwest by Gosche, on the north by the Oromia Region, and connected to Bensa on the east. The altitude in this area is among the highest growing coffee in the country sitting above 2,200 MASL, often categorized as Highlands Coffee. Growing coffee at this elevation can make for really incredible cups, and as such Rumudamo coffees earned both 2nd and 3rd place in the 2020 Cup of Excellence. The coffees contributing to this lot come from small plots in the highlands of Arbegona, where this station works with over 600 farmers. This station also farms its own coffee, planting only the 74112 variety on its 800+ hectares. 74112 is a variety made by the Jimma Agricultural Research Centre (JARC) in the 1970’s for their resistance to disease, high yield, and of course flavor profile. Coffee is the main cash crop in this area, although many other crops grow here such as sugar cane, false banana (a popular plant whose meat is fermented and used like a bread, and the rest of the plant can be used as construction material), spices, and vegetables. This is a new washing station for the Daye Bensa team, one that they purchased for its cup quality, which we’re glad they did. This was our favorite natural of all the Daye Bensa coffees we cupped, and it was also the most expensive. Prices for coffee cherry in the Bensa region skyrocketed this harvest when buyers forcasted a shortage. This combined with the purchase of the award winning station contributed to the price of this spendy, but delicious lot.

We get flavor notes of Blackberry and Fruit Loops, with the acidity of Lime, and a dense sweetness of Caramel.
