Description: Fazenda São José sits in Perdões, Minas Gerais, in the Campo das Vertentes microregion at 1,000 meters elevation — a farm that's been in the Freitas family since 1963, when José Evaristo first planted coffee with a vision rooted in his family’s unity and agricultural integrity. His son Marcos graduated with an agricultural degree in 1984 and has been running the farm ever since, alongside his wife Liliane and their daughters Tainah and Maeve.

What makes São José stand out is how seriously this family takes stewardship of their land. Over 15 years of solar energy and organic farming practices, a conservation area that exceeds what Brazilian law requires, integrated bee colonies, CO2 neutralization, and full traceability — Marcos has carried on this generational commitment. Controlled fermentations have been part of the program since 2017, and have opened a new avenue into specialty coffee, offering coffees that exceed typical expectations for Brazilian green coffee.

São José is Rainforest Alliance certified, and grows a range of varieties including Yellow Bourbon, Yellow Catuaí, Red Catuaí, Icatu, Rubi, Arara, and Mundo Novo across 240 planted hectares.
