Description: Coto Brus sits in the far south of Costa Rica, right up against the Panamanian border, in the Puntarenas province. It's one of the country's less-talked-about coffee regions — Tarrazú and the West Valley get most of the attention — but it has a long coffee history and an unusual landscape. The growing areas here nudge up against Parque Internacional La Amistad, the largest protected rainforest in Central America, which straddles the Costa Rica–Panama line. The result is a humid, biodiverse environment with plenty of shade and consistent rainfall through the growing season.

La Sonrisa is a regional blend pulled from the highest-elevation farms in Coto Brus, around 1,250 meters. Cherry from participating smallholders is delivered to Beneficio Rio Negro, where the lot is milled and prepped to a set specification so the profile stays consistent bag to bag. That consistency is the point of a lot like this — it's built to be a reliable Costa Rican you only need to dial in once in your roaster.
